The Gift of Patience

Tuesday, March 2, 2010 by Dawn Hall
Do you become frustrated when things don't go your way?  Isn’t it crazy how everything can hit you at once?  You’re cooking a fast and easy recipe for guests and you burn dinner, and the baby sitter cancels, and you cut your finger, and the power goes out… all at the same time!
frustrated

Let's face it, when things don't go our way, we can become so overwhelmed by our circumstance.  The situation can feel completely hopeless!

I’ve been there lots of times.  But you know what?  Even though is seems so bad sometimes, the incredible thing is that this is the place where God can make the biggest difference in our life.  The struggle you’re facing may actually be purposed by God for a reason.

You see, it’s in the times of being uncomfortable, the times you have no control over a situation or the choices being made by the people around you, that God has a chance to develop you.  It’s at those times that He has our attention and can mold us into the figure of perfection that He has designed us to be.

If we get out of the way and let Him work, amazing things will always happen.
Patience is a verb. Just remember that God is in control..REALLY!.. And remember that everything is set in motion and that all He requires of us is our faith and love.

Patience is not something I have.., patience is something I choose to have..

So be encouraged, how comforting it is to know, that the creator of the universe genuinely cares about everything that concerns us.  Cool hugh?

Friday, February 26, 2010 by Dawn Hall
So often people ask me what exercise I do to keep fit.
Trust me, I was born watching my weight! UGH!
My two favorite things to do are dance and walk.

I am probably one of hte only few people I know who wore tennis shoes at her daughter's wedding, just so I could focus on having fun dancing and not worry about my feet hurting! I wanted to enjoy the evening! :)

Busy People's cookbooks are among the top cookbooks when it comes to serving fast and easy low fat  recipes in a little time! Every recipe only has 7 or fewer ingredients!  Plus, everything is low fat!

I love that my sweetheart and I can have a wonderfully fun or romantic evening without spending a penny more than a cheap healthy meal at home made quickly and easily within minutes!  Then we can dance the night away to candle light.  It's just plain, old fashion romantic goodness! Even though I write Busy People's Cookbooks, I also like that the fast healthy meals have a grocery list for the entire menu! It's the answer for easy home cooking when the last thing we feel like doing is cooking! Easy meal planning is all done for us in the Super Simple Menus Cookbook, with a timeline and grocery list. Same with the Fast and Frugal Cookbook.  Try out  complete menus of recipes for FREE yourself, by clicking here for complete menus.

In the meantime, why not plan on enjoying a romantic evening alone with your sweetheart, and slow dance your way to fitness, at the same time!  Trust me, your heart beat will increase and you'll burn more calories just feeling the love! :)
Enjoy!

Fast and Frugal Meals Help Save Money

Friday, February 26, 2010 by Dawn Hall
Drive down your street and count ten houses. Seven of them represent a family living paycheck to paycheck in America.  – Dave Ramsey

In my opinion, living paycheck to paycheck is like gambling with our financial well being.  It's not worth gambling with our peace of mind.  We can buy a lot of things, but we can't buy peace of mind.

Having less spending $$$$ for extras (shopping, eating out, going out) does not necessarily mean you have to have less peace of mind or enjoy life less.

I drive a 13 year old car (which I love) and scaled down from a 6 bedroom house in the country to a house 1/3 the size in the city so that I do not have a car or house payment.  It's small and comfy, all I need.  I haven't eaten out since New Years Eve, I discontinued my cable TV and haven't even spent a penny on a coffee at a gas station in over 2 months.  At the same time I am SO grateful for the peace that comes with knowing I am living within my means! That is a gift we give our self!

I still enjoy eating nice meals, but they are at home with low cost ingredients instead of at a restaurant.  I easily make delicious dinners and cheap healthy recipes, but my dinner guests aren't thinking about the cost of the ingredients.  (If they are, then they have a problem!)  The most important thing is being together and enjoying healthy, delicious and nutritious food.  I simply cook great tasting and delicious looking frugal meals with inexpensive ingredients

We can save a LOT of money eating ingredients that not expensive!  It can look like a million bucks, but I want it fast, easy and inexpensive! :)

Easy meal planning of fast and easy recipes is super simple with Busy People's Fast and Frugal Cookbook and Busy People's Super Simple 30-Minute Menus Cookbook because there is only one set of time-line instructions to follow in order to make the entire menu of recipes in 30-minutes or less, PLUS a grocery list is provided!  Each features cookbook meals loaded with low cost family dinner recipes (over 250 each) that are low fat, too!

Is it time for a change? Is it time to cook even more frugal? If so, have no fear, I am here to help!

Try these many free recipes from Busy People's Cookbooks on my Cooking for Busy People website to see if my fast, easy and low fat home style recipes are just what you've been looking for!

Busy People's Cookbooks Are Great For Fundraisers!

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 by Dawn Hall

Are you  PUZZLED at how to raise money for a fundraiser or medical expenses?

Question from Ann Marie: I heard that you allow people who need help with medical expenses to use your cookbooks to help them with their medical hardships.
I pray that your cookbooks could be Gods means of help for them. Thank you, Ann Marie.

All of my Busy People's Cookbooks are available for  fundraisers and medical fundraisers! For medical expenses the cost is only $7.00 per book, OF FULL CASES of 24 books (OF EACH TITLE)!

I waive all of my author profits to benefit the person needing help with their medical expenses.

This is how it works:

This special price, of $7.00 per book, which includes shipping costs, in full case quantities (24 books per case) is ONLY for those with medical expenses not covered by insurance. For other fundraisers there are different prices, 40-50 % discounts.

Please submit (by email) your request for the "Special Fund Raising Terms to Use Busy People's Cookbooks for Medical Expenses" to me, Dawn Hall, at: Dawn@DawnHallCookbooks.com

Explain briefly what the funds will be used for and who they will help.

Once the request is reviewed and approved I will let Sandy at Thomas Nelson Publishers know you are approved for the special medical fund raising price and you can contact her directly.  You will receive the contact information by email.

My goal and purpose is to give you a helping hand. I cannot raise the money for you, but you can use my cookbooks as a fundraiser, I will not keep a penny, and as I did for my husband's medical expenses, you can raise the money you need yourself with the help of others who care about you. Simply ask others to help you sell the cookbooks.

How to do a Fundraiser with my easy cookbooks for busy people:

  • Pay the publisher directly on your charge card. They will drop ship full cases of 24 cookbooks (of same title) anywhere within the USA.
  • Insert a letter explaining the purpose of the fundraiser along with a photo of who the fundraiser is for.
  • Give books to friends & family to sell for your fundraiser.
  • Put press release in paper and let TV news stations know.
  • Once your charge card payment is due, enough books should be sold to over the cost of the printing, and all of the profits are yours!

There are 8 different fund raising cookbooks to use. All only have 7 or less easy to find ingredients per recipes and are made within 30 minutes or less! All are low fat!

  1. Busy People's Fun, Fast, Festive Christmas Cookbook (Christmas Cookbooks)

Secrets to a More Peaceful Life for Busy People

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 by Dawn Hall
healthy food tipsSometimes when we are in stressful situations we have to consciously choose to stay calm, keep it in perspective, not allow ourselves to go berserk.

That’s usually easier said than done.  A top priority in living a more peaceful lifestyle is in acknowledging our areas of weakness, and then choosing to change the way we react to our behavior.

Sometimes we have to do what Dawn Hall calls “Fake it till ya make it.”  Simply put: if our natural instinct is to fly off the handle and get all irate when things aren’t going our way, or allow something to ruin our day, we can choose to act or behave the way we would ideally like to, even though our natural instinct is the opposite.

We can choose to become the person we want to be.  Live the way you want to be until the habit becomes so much a part of you that you do no longer have to fake it. People who knew you growing up may know you as a hot head, but if you have made a conscious choice to change your behavior when you feel inside like being a hot head then the people who know you now might think of you as a calm and easy going person.

Yes, you may still struggle with wanting to be a hot head, but with time, perseverance and self discipline you can become the person you want to be.  You might call this Dawn Hall's frugal recipe for less stress :)

100 Calorie Snacks Not Low Cal When...

Saturday, February 20, 2010 by Dawn Hall
It hit me last night (as I was in the midst of eating my second 100 calorie sized bag of popcorn), that these 100 calorie sized snacks are not helpful in weight management or weight loss when we eat lots of them!  :)-  It is SOOO obvious that I was born watching my weight, isn't it?  :)

Thank goodness for quick low calorie recipes like those that are in Busy People's easy cookbooks, (which are ideal cooking for beginners!) Click for FREE LOW CALORIE RECIPES made with only 7 ingredients!

For a lot of us financially times are tight, let me rephrase that "REAL TIGHT"!

One serving size bag of 100 calorie popcorn often cost 35 to 50 cents per bag, compared to the lower cost of 4 bags in a box for $1.00 (of low-fat  brands) with a total of 12 servings for a cost per serving of less than 9 cents per serving!

If we are REALLY buckling down to lose weight or keep it off, and we only eat one serving of the 100 calorie bags, you may feel the extra cost is worth it.

I hate to waste food, but honestly, I would be financially better off buying the cheaper brands and portioning out a single serving size and then throwing the rest away. We can't keep  the left over popcorn for tomorrow because microwave popcorn doesn't keep well over night. It gets stale. We could feed the extra popcorn to the birds!  Let's face it those of us with low will power will eat the whole 3 serving size bag if we are not careful!  :)

Cooking for Busy Olympians

Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Todd Gagne'
They say that the best athletes have the unhealthiest diets. In truth, the best athletes are blessed with great genetics, and tend to eat whenever and whatever they want.

But, in looking at an Olympic athlete’s diet, one can’t help but wonder what kind of food choices they really make?
Female athletes get between 2000 and 3000 calories a day and the men get between 3000 and 5000…Wow!
Depending on the Olympic sport, Olympic athletes differ in nutritional choices.

An Olympic curler is not going to have the same diet plan as an Olympic as a downhill skier. On the lighter side, the menu might consist of cereal, milk, and a banana for breakfast, a sandwich and soup
for lunch, snacks consisting of trail mix and energy bars as well as chicken, rice, and vegetables for dinner.

A cross country skier's diet on the other hand would be very similar to a long distance runner's as they consume much larger quantities of food in general and a lot more protein. Experts also recommend high amounts of liquids including smoothies, fruit juices, snack foods including nuts, and energy bars.

Easy healthy dinners for a skier would be high in carbs like rice and potatoes and vegetables, bread, chicken, salmon, and beef for protein. 1,000 meter Olympic speed skating gold medalist Shani Davis’s diet might resemble Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps’s. Phelps consumes of a lot of food and a very large number of calories. During training he is instructed to eat between 8000 and 10,000 calories a day.

This might sound overly extreme, but with his large body type it’s exactly what he needs. Phelps requires a large caloric input for fuel. For breakfast alone Phelps starts with 3 fried egg sandwiches with cheese and tomatoes, an omelet, 3 slices of powdered french toast, and three chocolate chip pancakes. I guess that's what he calls easy meal planning.

The bottom line is that Olympic athlete’s diets can vary immensely. The main thing is for them to eat, so that they can gain the energy needed for any event.

So if you don't happen to be an Olympic athlete who requires thousands of calories to compete, check out one of
Dawn Hall's world famous Cooking for Busy People cookbooks and remember to support your local future gold medalists.

The Super Side Of Cooking For Busy People

Monday, February 8, 2010 by Todd Gagne'

Kudos to the Saints….great game! I think that the Colts needed a fast and easy recipe for winning a football game. I took an unbiased stance this year but I know a lot of Colts fans that are grieving the loss. As always the commercials are as much the entertainment as the actual game.

Here were my favorites:

1. Doritos – Shock Collar

Rover magically removes his shock collar and places it on his owner to maneuver his Doritos away from him. Very Funny!

2. David Letterman-CBS

This one really caught me by surprise. David Letterman complains, “This is the worst Super Bowl party ever.” Oprah Winfrey replies and then it’s revealed that Jay Leno is there as well.  Leno says Letterman is unhappy he’s there. Somehow I think Conan should have been there too. I really had to take a double take on that one!

3. Snickers Commercial

This was hysterical! “You might play football like Betty White”, with the 89 year old veteran entertainer squishing around a muddy football field very wacky spot that ended with Abe Vigoda with his face in the mud. Funny!

4. Doritos

A man has a date with a single mom, but her 7 year old son slaps the man and tells him to. “Keep your hands off my mama and keep your hands off my Doritos,”

5. Pro-Life Focus On the Family

The Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tedbow’s Focus on The Family ad caused all kinds of controversy from pro-choice groups but ended up delivering a very subtle pro-life message.

All in all this was on my top 5 list for best Super Bowl Experiences. Click Here to tell us your favorite Super Bowl Commercial.

All these snack ads got me to thinking about food so I searched through Dawn Hall’s Busy People’s cookbook repertoire for some kind of healthy Snicker alternative and I came up with this treat from one of the best cook books the Busy People's Low-Carb Cookbook.

Healthy Food Tips

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 by Dawn Hall
Busy People's Super Simple 30 Minute MenusWhen I first started creating my Busy People’s Super Simple 30 Minute Menus Cookbook, I cut time by purchasing precut lettuces. It didn’t take long before I realized that if the precut lettuces weren’t on sale, I was spending an arm and a leg to save a few minutes. I’m too frugal for that, so I revamped things a bit.

Unless I was under a major time constraint when preparing the fast healthy meals , or if the precut salads were on sale, I opted to chop my own lettuce. It saved oodles of money and, for the most part, the salads could be freshly cut and comfortably prepared within the 30 minutes.

A good place to purchase large quantities of precut romaine and iceberg lettuce along with spring lettuce mixes are wholesale clubs. Actually many of the menus take less than 30 minutes; however, all of them can be completely and comfortably made in 30 minutes or less.

When a meal is completed in 22 minutes I did not add extra recipes to the menu to use up time because the entire menu already has everything it needs nutritionally for a well-balanced meal with healthy portions of carbohydrates, lean proteins, and vegetables.

Sometimes I added fresh-baked bread recipes of some kind to the menu, if it wasn’t a high calorie menu. In all honesty, most families do not need the extra carbohydrates with their pasta or rice entrées. I tried to be health conscious and take into consideration what most people need, which is more free time to enjoy life.

Today I have included another tasty recipe from one of many of my easy cookbooks;
Super Simple 30 Minute Menus Cookbook; Buffalo Chicken Salad Soft Tacos. Click the Recipe Button and enjoy!

Cooking For Busy People, The Shopper's Edition

Cookbook Meals

One of the hardest things about making the conscious choice to eating a healthier lifestyle is doing what I call; ”De-Fatting Your Home and Automobile.”  For frugal people like myself who like to stretch the dollar this step can actually be painful and downright awful, because you are going to literally throw away what you used to think of as good food choices.

If they are loaded with simple sugars, if they have more than 3 grams of fat per a 100 calorie serving (except for half fat butter or lean meats), The are what I call “Compacted Calories”  (They have a lot of calories for a little serving.)

Delicious dinners and eating healthier with lower fat doesn’t begin with what you eat, it begins with what you purchase to eat (and in the choices we make prior to our actual first bite).

There are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of fat-free, very low-fat and lower carb products on the market today that can easily be substituted for our ounce poor choice foods, and make delicious dinners with light healthy recipes. Don’t worry I am not going to ask you to eat anything that does not taste good. My motto regarding low-fat and lower carb foods is, "If it doesn't taste good don't eat it."  There are too many delicious choices available today for any of us to waste calories on food that doesn't taste good.

An easy rule of thumb when reading labels:  If it has more than 3 grams of fat per 100 calories don't buy it.  The only time I break that rule is for half the fat butter, which I like on toast; and also you can have more than 3 grams of fat for super lean beef and pork such as:

                                             Serving                           Fat                                            % Fat
